We plant around two million seedlings each year, to supply premium quality timber for future generations. Ernslaw One is committed to sustainable harvesting and developing greater economies of scale in regional areas of New Zealand and its planting programmes are at the very root of its business.

Correct site preparation is critical to the success of the tree crop and our forestry specialists ensure that adequate nutrient levels and optimum growing conditions will encourage rapid seedling development and a quality final product.

Pruning / Thinning

Timely pruning and thinning of our radiata pine and Douglas-fir plantations improves the quality and quantity of wood produced.

We use specially developed forestry software and growth models to analyse the optimal combination of pruning and thinning for a given site. On the best sites, trees are pruned to produce clearwood, thus improving the return from the most productive land.
